Mass-Integration and Environmental Evaluation of Chitosan Microbeads Production Modified with of Thiourea and Magnetite Nanoparticles

Bioadsorbents based on biopolymers modified with magnetic nanoparticles stand out for being non-toxic, effective, and easy to recover. Thus, the objective of present work was carry a computer-aided environmental evaluation industrial-scale production bioadsorbents from chitosan iron functionalized thiourea as chelating agent plus mass integration. The plant simulation carried in Aspen Plus, integration process, pinch analysis used determine minimum target fresh residual water amount, assuming two process stages: (1) synthesis magnetite nanoparticles, (2) chitosan-based bioadsorbents. assessment performed using waste reduction algorithm (WAR). potential impact (PEI) quantified, taking into account products energy, obtaining value below zero −0.78 PEI/kg product. photochemical oxidation (PCOP) stood category greatest impact, mainly related use ethanol during washing. categories toxicological impacts (HTPI, HTPE, TTP, ATP) had lower values than those atmospheric (GWP, ODP, PCOP, AP). resulted fewer HTPE category, consequence decrease NaOH streams release 0.297 product ATP caused by presence Al(OH)₃. It can be concluded that managed reduce up 51% freshwater processes, it is useful tool, slightly decreased total impacts.
